Christina Aguilera is still one of the most popular music performers in the world. Having sold more than 25 million albums worldwide, Cristina is still on top of her game and continues to sizzle even if most of her contemporaries had already fizzled out of the limelight.
Christina's popularity can be attributed to many things including her impeccable style and capacity to change her looks to match her life phase and her music but Christina's success is really largely due to her talent. Christina's voice is incomparable and her capacity to churn out one hit after another is astounding. It would be hard not to become a fan of Christina's singing. Her voice is strong, soulful and clear. It is also obvious that Christina understands the business and knows her audience well. She has after all been performing all her life, and singing professionally for over a decade. Because Christina Aguilera is immensely popular, her life story is also well-known. As a child performer, Christina Aguilera joined Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake in Disney Channel's "The New Mickey Mouse Club" in 1992. Before joining the Mickey Mouse Club, Christina also joined the Star Search in 1988. Christina Aguilera who is of Irish and Ecuadorian descent is originally from Staten Island. By 1998 she already recorded the song "Reflection" for the Disney movie- Mulan. The song paved the way for Christina to sign a record deal with RCA. Her first single "Genie in a Bottle" from her self-titled album became a worldwide hit and was instrumental in paving the way to Christina's success. Cristina also released Mi Reflejo, a Spanish version of her debut album. In 2001, Christina once again released a chart-topping hit, the song Lady Marmalade for the soundtrack of the movie Moulin Rouge. She performed the hit with other illustrious singers: Pink, Mya and Lil Kim. During this same period Christina also worked on her 2nd album Stripped. In October of the following year, Christina released Stripped and the very first single from the album - Dirty. This song showcased her transformation from teeny-bopper releasing bubble gum pop to a mature performer with spunk and edge. This album also contains the hits "Beautiful and "Make-over" In 2006 Christina released the album Back to Basics. This album was produced together with DJ Premier and Linda Perry and debuted at number 1 on Billboard 100. Today Christina has numerous awards including: Best Female Pop Vocalist in 2007. She was also awarded: Best Female artist (2006 MTV Europe Award), Favorite Female artist (2004 MTV Asia), Favorite Female artist (2004 Europe Music Awards), Best Female Pop Vocal Performance (2003 Grammy Awards), Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals (2001 Grammy Awards). In 2001 she won four awards including: Best Female Pop Vocal (Latin Grammy), Best Video of the Year (MTV Video Music Awards), Best Video from a Film (MTV Video Music Awards) and the BMI Award. Apart from touring and recording, Christina Aguilera is involved in many worthy causes including the "What's Going on Project" for Los Angeles' Artists Against AIDS. |
